Order of operations
For most employee-side employment lawyers the first dollar belongs in Google search. Someone who types "wrongful termination attorney near me" has already decided to talk to an employment lawyer. A narrow campaign for a few matter types, in the areas where you can answer the phone well, tests whether the economics work before you scale. If Local Services Ads are available for your category and area, they can be a useful second test because they put a screened badge at the top of the results.
Retargeting on Meta is usually the third step, once the site has enough traffic to remind. Bing comes in when you want more volume from searches that Google already shows you are winning. ChatGPT ads, which are new, deserve a small test when your core channels are working and your tracking is in place. We would not start there.
One point cuts across all of them. Platform policies on legal services and on sensitive topics change, and ads can be disapproved or limited. Read the current rules for each platform and your bar's advertising rules before you launch, and expect some copy to need rewrites.

Google has opened these ads to many kinds of legal practice, but categories and availability vary by market. Employment work may fall under a labor, employment or broader legal category, so confirm in your own sign-up flow rather than assuming.
A real verification process
Expect checks on the business and on each attorney, including state bar licensing. Plan time for it and make sure every attorney's profile matches the bar record.
Charged by the lead
Instead of paying per click, you pay for qualifying leads. That makes screening matter even more, because a call about something you do not handle can still cost money. Review how disputes and credits work.
A decent test, not a given
Workers who search quickly and want a reputable local firm may respond, but the intake questions may need to be tuned to avoid paying for calls about employer-side issues or matters outside your states.
The discretion problem
Many searchers are still employed and worried about being noticed. An ad that reads like a warning label, full of exclamation points and threats against employers, makes some of them uncomfortable. Calm copy that says what the firm does, how to reach a person and when someone is available tends to feel safer and fits your bar's expectations better.
That also affects the landing page. A visitor on a shared or work device may not want a page that autoplays video or loads a chat widget. A visitor who tapped an ad during lunch wants to see the phone number, hours and a short form. We build for that behavior and test it by reading call logs, not by guessing.
First sixty days
Agree on what you want to hear in a first call, what gets declined and what gets referred. Write it down, because the campaign settings flow from it.
One high-value matter and one steady one, in places where you have coverage. Do not start with every claim type.

Two smaller channels
Microsoft's search network reaches fewer people than Google, but it reaches some who do not use Google as their default, often on workplace computers. For an employment lawyer, that can mean an audience of people who are still at their desk when they start worrying. The volume is smaller, so tests take longer and the data is thinner. We usually copy a working Google structure into Bing after it has proved itself, rather than building a separate plan from scratch.
Ads inside AI chat products are new. They deserve a small, measured test, because people do ask assistants about firings and severance, but the formats, targeting limits, reporting and category rules are still changing and often limited for legal topics. If you try it, cap the budget, keep the test short and judge it by consultations. Do not confuse it with AI search work, which concerns how assistants describe your firm without any payment.
